Slow News Day

It's a slow news day at Camp C today.  A quick trip out to CoH for an injection that boosts white cell production.  C dealing with the wonderful feelings of nausea that come with the territory.  We're working on how to support him nutritionally, trying to figure out what works, what has worked for other friends/survivors, what's recommended, etc.  We'll be setting up some system so that friends can help out with that, but that system is still TBD.

I've fallen behind on some tagging that's been going on so this is a good time for that.  Thanks so much to everybody for pitching in.  We love seeing these pics.

Here's Ben after winning first baseball game of the summer league season 11-9...  On base 3 of 4 times, 2 hits, 1 run scored!

David sends in another photo from the field, and if you think these guys look tough, remember Kenzie was there taking the picture.  Never forget the photographer...

And David has another tale from the trail:

Kings, Lens, Stanford PD 020

"This isn't a pile of rocks, it's a portrait of C.  We were in Kings Canyon finishing the day's hike at about 9500'.  When we finally decide to "drop ruck", he and I are choreographed like "Dancing with the Stars" until the campsite is set up.  C's specialty is the fire pit, which of course serves for cooking and evening companionship.

"Maybe its our advancing age, but the first thing we look for is a boulder to sit and lean against.  Then the fire pit is centered about 7' feet from the boulder where its close enough to rock forward and check the cooking status, but far enough that our legs can stretch out some.  The back of the ring is higher to reflect heat at us and he finds flat stones for near the front to hold cooking pots.  He stages everything he needs to get the fire going starting with twigs as thin as toothpick then building up.  At this site in fact, we piled enough wood for the night and slept close to the fire since we carried only our super thin Summer bags.  When bedding down, he removes some of the rocks from the back so heat isn't blocked.  To me, this captures his sense of order and craftsmanship."

That's it for today.  With Memorial Day here it's a time to hold many people out there in the Light in addition to C, in particular the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country.  I think about their families. too.  In particular we are thinking of the nephew/son/grandson of treasured old family friends who was injured recently in Afghanistan.  You can follow and support his struggle here - we'll be holding David in the Light as well.
