The Things We Share

Today's a good day, by current standards.  C has been staying at the village on the City of Hope campus - a good deal for people in his situation, if a bit seedy in a someone-smoked-here-twenty-years-ago kind of way.  It's no spa vacation, but it's filling a need.

C is now on day 5 of radiation, which so far is a pretty mechanical process, and also on day 5 of the reduced irinotecan dosage.  He's really happy with the reduced dosage.  It means he gets it for 10 days (so maybe by day 10 it will suck again) and he still pukes a couple times a day, but compared to the last go-round he's finding it really tolerable.  Or maybe his standards have just changed!

The big difference is he's eating well in the midst of this round, which is a big, important change.  He is at the clinic now getting his radiation, then a little later he'll get today's chemo and then he hopes to head home for a weekend off.  He'll probably choose to stay at home next week if he feels comfortable with the daily transportation needs.  It may be something he can do himself or there are other options, from family and friends to volunteers through the American Cancer Society to taxis.  I suppose that's something he'll decide on this weekend.

Here's a photo that came in this week.  Sam is a kid that C really loves - and for good reason. Sam's an interesting, intelligent, great kid.

Sam was out for a dude's night with Dad: "Over a some beers/lemonades, Sam pointed out things that we share as father and son, as the men of our family. Here is one of the things we share."

Have a great weekend, everybody.
